Films are made here; books
are written here; mods & rockers fought here; bands have started
here, (Fatboy Slim, The Levellers, The Eighties
Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Electric Soft Parade); pop-stars, actors
& comedians live here; there are record labels: Skint, LOCA, Kayotix & Catskills;
artists & designers; studio's; clubs; concerts; theatres; markets;
municipal gardens; parks and a pebble strewn beach filled with cockney
day-trippers in kiss-me-quick hats...
Brighton has a history of being mischievously
and creatively surprizing!
The City also has
a large gay community; is home
to two universities; Sussex & Brighton; is sometimes known as
'London by the Sea' because of its lively atmosphere & cosmopolitan
nature; has a reputation for being chilled-out and relaxed... Brighton
certainly does seem to operate at a different pace to the rest of
the country -
Oh, and it's home to Brighton & Hove

The
Royal Pavilion
Pavilion Gardens
The Royal Pavilion's lavish interiors combine Chinese-style decorations with
magnificent furniture and furnishings. Adorned with gilded dragons, carved palm
trees and imitation bamboo staircases, the Palace's unique style mixes Asian
exoticism with English eccentricity. Daring and inventive colours feature throughout,
and there are many original items on loan from HM The Queen.

Brighton & Hove
Albion FC
Withdean Stadium
Brighton's Withdean Stadium is their second ground since 1997, when they vacated
their home of nearly 100 years - the Goldstone.
After a two-year exile spent ground-sharing
70 miles away in Gillingham, Albion returned home to the council-owned Withdean
Stadium - originally built as a venue for Davis Cup tennis in the 1930s. In more
recent years it has housed football, athletics and American football.
The club - under new ownership and desperate to get back to Brighton
- spent £2 million bringing the ground up to Football League
standard.
The stadium holds 7,000 supporters, all seated. It was
originally 6,000, but 1,000 additional seats were installed behind
the east goal in the summer of 2000 - and that's where the visiting
supporters are accommodated. Every match is all-ticket, as part
of the agreement made with the council when the club moved in,
so you'll need to have purchased a ticket in advance. No match
tickets are sold at the stadium on the day.
